Ignition Entertainment’s Florida studio suddenly closed

Ignition Entertainment has reportedly closed the doors to its studio in Gainesville, Florida. Another Ignition studio in London also closed recently, which was followed by the cancellation of WarDevil. A message was sent to GamesIndustry.biz that told a story of how the employees at Ignition found out they were out of a job.

THQ: “There’s no room for average games anymore”

THQ held a press conference today from Montreal. One of the main focuses of the conference was presenting THQ’s upcoming portfolio of games. After showing a sizzle reel featuring titles such as Homefront, Devil’s Third and Red Faction Armageddon, THQ’s Executive Vice President of Core Games Danny Bilson shared a few comments about the new Montreal studio. Simply put, THQ isn’t looking for average games.

THQ has a new development studio in Montreal, Quebec. Along with a new studio, THQ needs the appropriate talent to make the best of its resources. Today (October 19, 2010), THQ announced it has added a very talented creative director to its ranks.

EA reveals new studio focused on family entertainment

EA is opening a brand new studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. This new space was built to create new games that are meant to be enjoyed by families. The staff at EA Salt Lake helped create titles in the EA Play line owned by Hasbro such as Nerf, Monopoly and Littlest Pet Shop. The official opening of the studio will follow a ribbon cutting ceremony performed by the Governor of Utah and other public officials from the state.

Sony Home Update: A frightening new world has opened, more goodies at the mall

A frightening world has just opened on Sony’s PlayStation HOME and I do warn you. It’s not for the faint at heart. On Thursday, May 7, 2009, the world of Siren: Blood Curse opened featuring the swamp scene from the game as a lounge and an entrance to the hospital complete with a crazy nurse behind the counter challenging you to escape the hospital within 5 minutes. Bodies of victims and zombie nurse (called Shinto) standees stand in front of the hospital for photo ops for those players with the camera feature on their virtual PSP. To play just see the nurse as you enter the Ward of Despair and be prepared to move like the wind.

Once inside the replica of the hospital’s first floor five players must work together to gather the missing items, distract the shinto (zombie nurses) and escape the basement as fast as they can armed with only a flashlight…

Ubisoft plans development studio in Singapore

French game publisher Ubisoft already has a strong presence in Asia with two of its 17 internal development studios housed in China. Now it has opted for Singapore as the location for its new internal development studio. The publisher plans to gradually increase the staff strength at the studio, which is under construction, to 300 employees.
