Xbox 360 becomes a Verizon FiOS cable box next month

On December 6, the Xbox Live dashboard update will be pushed to all Xbox Live members. Along with the new look will come new video services from a wide variety of content providers. Verizon is one of the companies that partnered with Microsoft to bring certain features from its FiOS TV service to the console. Today, Verizon outlined what Xbox 360 owners will be able to do once Verizon FiOS becomes their internet and television provider.

A look at CinemaNow on PS3 [with video]

At E3 2011, Sony revealed CinemaNow would be coming to the PlayStation Network. It was finally released yesterday as part of the weekly PlayStation Store update. CinemaNow is just another option for renting and buying movies and television shows on the PS3. It’s a free download that’s only 17MB. You don’t have to sign up to browse the store, but purchases do require registration and activation.

Netflix and video games: What happened?

The Q&A session between Netflix and its investors recently wrapped up today. During the event, in which we attended virtually through the power of the internet, Netflix didn’t say a word about a video game rental service. Just last month, game rentals were one of the high points Netflix offered when it was promoting Qwikster. Ever since the Qwikster plans were cancelled, Netflix has remained mostly mum on game rentals, only stopping the silence to state it isn’t sure if games will be offered. After reading and hearing Netflix’s third quarter financial results and its letter to investors, I think I have a good idea why games may be off the table for the foreseeable future.

New Windows Phone app turns smartphone into Xbox 360 remote

Microsoft’s announcement of bringing more television content to Xbox Live also has a mobile component. If you don’t want to navigate through content with the Xbox 360 controller or Kinect, you can pull out your Windows Phone to perform those tasks. Microsoft will release the Xbox Companion application for free just in time for the big Xbox 360 Dashboard update.

Xfinity On Demand coming to Xbox 360 in “the coming months”

Microsoft is staying strangely silent on the details surrounding its new partnerships with 40 television network and cable providers to bring more television content to the Xbox 360. We’ve had to obtain more information from Verizon and Comcast instead. Verizon has revealed the need for customers to be signed up for three subscription services to access its live and on-demand content on Xbox 360. Comcast has announced Xfinity On Demand is what it’s bringing to the table.

Microsoft announces partners for Xbox Live television service [Update]

The rumors were true everybody. Just this morning we told you there was a possibility Microsoft would reveal the content providers that would supply the Xbox 360 television initiative. Not too long ago, a complete list of partners was posted on Major Nelson’s blog. Expect to see content from the likes of HBO Go, Bravo, Syfy, Epix, CinemaNow and others. Some networks will provide content for the U.S., while others are restricted to other countries such as the United Kingdom, Mexico and France. Expect this content to roll out during the 2011 holiday season.

Xbox TV announcement expected sometime today

The Xbox TV rumors have picked up over the past couple weeks. Microsoft has reportedly gotten the blessing of Verizon and Comcast to offer some of its content on Xbox 360 consoles. A source told AllThingsD Microsoft will announce the fruits of those partnerships today. But if you’re someone who has already gotten rid of your cable service, these upcoming announcements will most likely mean nothing to you.

Verizon plays it cool regarding Xbox television partnership

Yesterday, a report surfaced that detailed an upcoming agreement between Microsoft, Comcast and Verizon for the Xbox 360′s television inititive. The report said the Xbox 360 would be used to distribute Comcast and Verizon television service into homes instead of traditional cable boxes. So far, none of the companies involved have confirmed anything. Verizon however decided to at least acknowledge the story.

HBO Go is console-bound

What’s that you say? Video content from Netflix, Hulu Plus, ESPN, NHL GameCenter, Vudu, Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network isn’t enough for you? We’ll you’re in luck today my friend. During an earnings call that took place earlier today, Time Warner chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes announced HBO Go is coming to gaming consoles.

LG wants to block the sale of Sony televisions and PS3 consoles

The legal battle between Sony and LG has taken another messy turn. The two companies have been accusing each other of patent infringement. It has gotten so bad that the US International Trade Commission is now involved. Should LG have its way, the ITC will block sales of Sony Bravia televisions and PS3s in North America.
