thatgamecompany’s Journey begins in 2012
I know you’ve been going crazy, waiting and hoping to play Journey on your PS3 sooner, rather than later. Maybe you were even lucky enough to participate in the closed Journey beta. Well, thatgamecompany hates to burst your bubble, but the game won’t be out this year. Journey has slipped into 2012.
If you want to get specific, it has a Spring 2012 release window…
Closed beta for Journey starts June 28
Journey is the next title from thatgamecompany, the developers of flOw and Flower. If you’re familiar with thatgamecompany’s style, you’re aware that its games aren’t what you’d expect to see everyday. Back in January, we wrote a little piece about Journey including its lack of a jump button, and Jenova Chen’s opinion on the social aspect in games. If Journey sounds intriguing to you, you may be one of the lucky few to try Journey ahead of its release.
Jenova Chen talks more about Journey, the game with no jump button
Journey is a strange game to say the least. It’s a mutliplayer game, but it has no online lobby. You collect patches of cloth, but you don’t keep them. Your goal is to keep moving, but you can’t voluntarily jump. Journey is the latest project from thatgamecompany who also created unique games such as Flower and flOw. Thatgamecompany’s creator director Jenova Chen spoke very mysteriously about Journey with the PlayStation Blog, and I still have no idea what’s going on.
20 PS3 exclusives out in 2011
Sony took to its PlayStation Blog today to remind PS3 owners that 2011 is going to be a very good year for them. It lists 20 good reasons why you will be glad you own a PS3. Or, if you don’t own one, then you can think of it as 20 good reasons to buy one. Yup, you guessed it – it’s a list of 2011 games that are only going to be released on the PS3 this year.
Let’s see what there is to look forward to and when we’ll be playing it…
Get your first look at ThatGameCompany’s Journey
While ThatGameCompany’s Journey is still quite a mystery, we now have a little better idea of what it will look like. The first official trailer has been released for this exploration game on the PlayStation Blog, so people can get an idea of what exploring the deserts and wilderness will be like. Well, that and enjoy some absolutely gorgeous background music. Really, it’s quite pretty.
Here, watch the Journey trailer and see for yourself…
Flower, as seen in LittleBigPlanet 2
LittleBigPlanet‘s biggest draw was the infinite possibilities brought on by your own imagination. Some people made totally original stages that were just as remarkable as the ones included in the main game. The toolset needed to create amazing levels has been expanded in LittleBigPlanet 2. With those tools you can create your own videogame, or in this case, recreate a PSN favorite.
Roger Ebert irritating gamers with words once again
Film critic Roger Ebert has decided to lift his silence on games as art and once again posted his thoughts on the topic on his Chicago Sun Times blog titled “Video games can never be art.”
In response to a talk given at the University of Southern California’s TEDxUSC (Technology, Entertainment, Design) talk given by game developer-producer “Having once made the statement above, I have declined all opportunities to enlarge upon it or defend it. That seemed to be a fool’s errand, especially given the volume of messages I receive urging me to play this game or that and recant the error of my ways. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that in principle, video games cannot be art. Perhaps it is foolish of me to say “never,” because never, as Rick Wakeman informs us, is a long, long time. Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form.”
Flower’s $4.99 for Valentine’s Day 2010
