Batman: Arkham Asylum sets a world record
Just a little while after I posted my review of Batman‘s latest adventure, I came upon this little gem. It seems that the game (which we reviewed very favorably) has set a Guiness World record for “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever“. Wow – you can’t make this stuff up.
Gamertell Review: Batman: Arkham Asylum
Title: Batman: Arkham AsylumPrice: $59.99System(s): Xbox 360, PS3, PCRelease Date: August 25, 2009Publisher (Developer): Rocksteady (Warner Bros. Interactive/DC Comics)ESRB Rating: TeenPros: Amazing atmosphere, great gameplay flow, awesome Batman trappings.Cons: Combat is arguably too simplisticOverall Score: Two thumbs up; 92/100; A; * * * * 1/2
Batman: Arkham Asylum came out of left field (at least, for me) and completely blew me away. It’s the very best game to feature The Dark Knight himself, with gameplay that fully captures all of the B-man’s best abilities and throws the player into one of the coolest, creepiest and most story-rich environments this side of BioShock.
2Bits: Game industry “Oscars” would be destroyed by its own politics
The idea of a video game industry awards show, one much like the Oscars, is a pretty intriguing idea. Much like the Oscars, though, it would most likely fall apart due to industry politics.
One of the great things about entertainment is that some people do it simply because they love to do it. If not, they at least love to please an audience. However, with the multitudes of industry-specific awards, most of the love and life that went into industries including music, film and literature has disappeared…
Dark Knight video game is officially not happening
Sorry, Batman fans.
The game based on the hit movie The Dark Knight isn’t going to happen, according to Kotaku Australia.
The studio charged with the project, Pandemic Brisbane, was caught in the Electronic Arts cost-cutting measures. EA, which had acquired the Batman game rights from Time Warner, was going to…
Lost Planet movie will have Dark Knight-sized budget
Capcom wants to make big moves with its original properties, seeing the Resident Evil film series as a model for how successful its games can become in Hollywood. Capcom Head of Character Content Business, Toshihiro Tokumaru, mentioned that the budget for the Lost Planet movie is between $150-200 million.
That puts it in the neighborhood of Warner Bros. blockbuster The Dark Knight, which cost…

The Dark Knight’s returning to the big screen January 2009
Chances are, if you’re reading this site, you saw The Dark Knight – and that you liked it. If so, you’ll be pleased to know that the film will be returning to theaters – and IMAX – on January 23, 2008. The moody, beautifully crafted film is a serious contender for Oscar recognition – one of the first “superhero” flicks in recent memory (or ever, really) to have a chance at being so honored.
Of course, the Oscar buzz has been flitting around ever since the film came out in July – with Christopher Nolan’s expert direction and the late Heath Ledger’s phenomenal performance as the Joker.
Rumor: Dark Knight game not dead, just hibernating
You may have read in an earlier story here on the tell that the Dark Knight video game was axed . Alas, there is faint hope for the caped crusader fans that a game exist and indeed is in the works.
Our lovely friends over at Kotaku have scored an interview with a source who has played the game and given details and problems that the new developers, Pandemic, are running into.
First, a few…
Dark Knight Game axed, EA missed a golden opportunity
It would appear that EA seriously dropped the ball on the canned The Dark Knight game, according to GameDaily. A videogame adaptation of the ultra-smash hit was reportedly in the works, but it got axed due to “quality concerns, the controversy surrounding star Heath Ledger’s death, and less than optimistic sales projections” ouch.
Cut Scenes: The summer in genre film
Pardon me for subscribing to a very mild generalization but, if you’re a hardcore gamer, there’s a good chance you enjoy genre films. That is, you’ve got a taste for sci-fi, action, comic book or adventure flicks. It makes sense – in this transmedia, franchise-happy landscape, most gamers just tend to be avid consumers of entertainment, and TV/films are starting to borrow heavily from gaming and internet culture, so much so that it makes sense to cover it all on a site like gamertell. Plus, Comic-Con just ended, and everyone is abuzz over crossover games and movies, not to mention that kick-ass Watchmen trailer.
So this week, I’d like to take a peek at the non-interactive world and ponder just why this summer’s genre offerings are doing so well at the box office. The quick answer: Because most of them have been…
