Fans will vote for who shares the cover of Tiger Woods 13

Continuing its recent policy of focusing the cover of Tiger Woods’ game on anything but Woods, EA has announced another golfer will share the honor with him. It is also asking players to vote for which golfer it will be. The cover vote is happening on Facebook with two brackets: one for American golfers and one for European golfers. Bubba Watson, Ben Crane, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, and Rocco Mediate battle it out in the US bracket. Europeans Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Ross Fisher, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, and Edoardo Molinari.

EA Sports hires another golfer as brand ambassador for Tiger Woods’ game

EA, one of the advertisers to stick by Tiger Woods during his extramarital scandals, continues to slowly distance itself from the pro golfer.

EA has put out a press release announcing that young golfer Rhys Davies will serve as a “brand ambassador” for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters. This is on the heels of EA releasing box art for the game that doesn’t include Woods.

EA announces Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, takes Woods off the cover

Sponsors began jumping off the Tiger Woods bandwagon rapidly after news of his extramarital affairs broke. One that stuck by him emphatically was EA Sports, who uses Tiger as the face of its PGA Tour golf series. After a year in which sales dipped and Tiger still hasn’t found his golf game, EA appears to be reversing course.

EA to charge for online play

Uh-oh – it looks like EA has just crossed the line that we’ve all (frankly) been waiting for – a venerable shot across the bow for rental and used-game retailers. Starting with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, players who want to take their EA Sports titles online will have to enter the unique “Online Pass” code from the game box. If you’re renting or buying a used copy, you have to pony up an additional $10 for the pass. Here’s the bad news – each pass is game-specific – you can’t use the code you purchased on one game on another (so if you bought the code for, say, Madden, you are SOL if you try to use it on FIFA).

Scandal can’t stop Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online

Tiger Woods’ personal life is certainly messed up, and he’s been losing a lot of sponsors and commercial deals, but he still has one thing left to cling to. EA is still going to allow him to be immortalized as a video game icon. EA’s latest press release confirms that its online PC and Mac golf simulation game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online hasn’t been canceled due to Woods’ indiscretions. EA released a statement about Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online‘s forthcoming open beta that also said the company partnered with Tiger Woods strictly for his golf skills.

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online press release mainly focuses on the game. It’s a browser-based affair with no downloads or add-ons required. The only thing you will need is a connection to the internet. Once you start playing, you can visit a wide variety of courses, like Pebble Beach or TPC Sawgrass, play matches against friends, customize your golfer and improve your abilities with Pro Shop items.

I have to wonder if perhaps the scandal could be contributing to the delay in officially launching Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. EA was supposed to launch the browser-based, online game sometime in Fall 2009, and 2010′s just started…

Study debunks belief that playing with your Wii can lead to aggression

Confirming something most of us already know, a new study coming out of Villanova University indicates that motion controls do not increase aggression in people who play violent video games.

Certainly inspired by the controversy controversy surrounding the Wii release of Manhunt 2, a study titled “An examination of psychoticism and motion capture controls as moderators of the effects of violent video games” (Patrick M. Markey and Kelly Scherera, 2008, Department of Psychology, Villanova University) examined the “hostility and aggressive thoughts” in individuals while they played Manhunt 2 as well as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08

EA to discontinue online support for older sports and racing games

EA has announced that it will be discontinuing online support for older sports games effective September 1, 2007. These older sports titles would be rendered redundant, at least, as far as online gameplay is concerned, beginning September 1, 2007. Major sports titles including NHL 06, NBA LIVE 06, FIFA 06, NCAA FOOTBALL 06 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 will go offline.

Racing games Burnout Revenge and Need for Speed Most Wanted will have their online wings clipped from November 1. It will be a complete withdrawal of online support and all versions, both PC and console, will be affected.

At first glance, it seems to be a…
