Casual Friday update for December 10-16, 2011
We’re starting to get into that holiday release window lull. You know, when a lot of new games don’t appear because of the season. That’s the only explanation I can find for there being only six new casual games to report on this week. Only one of them is available for both Windows and Mac, by the way. Surprisingly, even though Christmas is only about a week away, only one of them is holiday-themed! It’s Chicken Invaders: Ultimate Omelette Christmas Edition (Windows, Mac). I bet you can’t wait to play that.
What’s really worth seeing this week is the Humble Indie Bundle 4 (Windows, Mac, Linux). Yes, I know it feels like there was just one of these, but this is more important as it’s an actual numbered bundle and is the best one ever. If you pay less than the average price, you get Bit.Trip Runner, Jamestown, NightSky, Shank and Super Meat Boy. Pay more than the average and Cave Story + and Gratuitous Space Battles are added to your bundle. All seven games are absolutely fantastic, so keep it in mind! You can even gift it!
This week’s best bet is: The Humble Indie Bundle 4 (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Review: Dress Up Rush HD for iPad
Yet another retail/service time management game, Dress Up Rush attempts to incorporate high fashion, pink hearts and fancy furniture. In the game you have discovered your inner fashion designer, er consultant, and open a store.
Now you don’t get to design any clothes in this game but you do have to stock new fashions, hire a couple employees and keep you high-class clientele happy (but not waiting too long).
Casual Friday Update for January 29 – February 4, 2011
This week’s Casual Friday update goes back to the basics. If you like classic casual games that want you to find objects, match blocks/gems/jewels or manage something, then keep reading. There are six games that want you to do just that. I’ll admit, stuffing Abigail and the Kingdom of Fairs (Windows) into the time management category is a bit reaching, since its more of a simulation game where you have to set up a fair, but the character is managing fairs so it works.
This is also a week that has more special editions than usual. There’s Delicious: Emily’s Childhood Memories Premium Edition (Windows, Mac) and Stray Souls: Dollhouse Story Collector’s Edition (Windows). This means you get a few extra levels or puzzles than normal, and perhaps some screensavers or wallpapers for your computer. If you want cheaper standard versions of those games, you’ll have to wait a few weeks…
Pucca chases Garu onto the App Store
Vooz’s Pucca loves that little ninja Garu, and she isn’t going to let anything get in her way of grabbing him – even work. Even though she’s helping to run her family’s noodle house in Pucca Noodle Rush and keep it from having to close down due to a new rival, she still has time to run over and smooch him whenever he shows up in the store. That’s right, unlike the DS action game Pucca Power Up, Pucca Noodle Rush is a time management simulation.
Think of Pucca Noodle Rush as Diner Dash, only in shades of red and black…
Gamertell Review: Soap Opera Dash for Windows and Mac
With all the Dash casual time management games PlayFirst has created, you almost have to wonder what the company could possibly come up with next. The answer is Soap Opera Dash, a frantic time management simulation where players have to help Rosie work with the residents of Dinertown to put on a successful soap opera. Unlike some of the other Dash entries, Soap Opera Dash basically throws you into a frantic situation with a few tutorials, hoping you pick up enough from the brief introduction to make it through frenzied episodes of a new series. It’s fun, but you better be ready to work and have a reliable mouse if you want to succeed…
Gamertell Review: Cooking Dash 3: Thrills & Spills for Windows and Mac
Dinerland was a dilapidated theme park. There was nothing worth seeing and Mr. Big, the new owner, was stressed trying to figure out how to revitalize it and bring people in so he could repay the loan his dad gave him. He had 10 days to make Dinerland wonderful before his dad came by and saw what a disappointment it all was. Flo ran a food stand there, which happened to be the only thing in DinerLand that actually attracted customers.
Mr. Big decided to seize that opportunity. Coincidentally, most of the major rides in DinerLand also happened to have restaurants inside of them…
Gamertell Review: Wedding Dash 4-Ever for Windows, Mac
Quinn’s wedding planning business, which Flo from Diner Dash helps her with, is going very well. In fact, everything in her life is going pretty well – until her mom drops by. Quinn’s mom still thinks Quinn is engaged and preparing to marry Joe, and has come to visit and help plan the wedding.
The thing is, the wedding’s off…

Diner Dash port finally debuts on the Wii March 29
Finally! Finally Hudson’s downloadable port of Diner Dash is headed to the Wii. Honestly, I’d forgotten all about it. See, way back when in March, 2009, Hudson announced that it was working on downloadable ports of Diner Dash for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Some time passed, and eventually Diner Dash appeared on Xbox Live Arcade (November 18, 2009) and the PlayStation Store (November 24, 2009). But the Wii version never appeared!
Now it’s finally on it’s way. On Monday, March 29, 2010, the 3D, cell shaded version of Diner Dash will be released on WiiWare. It’s essentially the PC version of Diner Dash that you know and love, only it looks a little different and it took a lot longer to appear…
Gamertell Review: Passport to Perfume for PC and Mac
After the runaway success of Cake Mania, time management became a major casual game genre. Many developers set out to create their own customer service games in the hopes of achieving the same success. PlayFirst and Mean Hamster Software’s latest game, Passport to Perfume, offers a slight variation. Instead of serving some sort of food, players are tasked with assisting a young woman named Sophia who’s life mission is mixing perfume.
Sophia and her father shared a dream, to recover the recipe for Marie Antoinette’s perfume and once again create that legendary scent. While acquiring a rare ingredient in Brazil, Sophia’s father fell from a precarious ledge to his doom. It was then that Sophia temporarily abandoned her dream.
One day, years later, a man comes into her shop with her father’s journal…
