SouthPeak Interactive gets TNA game rights, game scheduled for 2010
The speculation about where the digital versions of Total Nonstop Action wrestling superstars will ply their trade for the next few years has ended in a surprise.
Not known for fighting or wrestling games for that matter, SouthPeak Interactive has purchased the rights to make TNA games.
A financial report revealed SouthPeak got the TNA assets in Midway’s bankruptcy sale and even has a games on the 2010 calendar: TNA iMPACT: Cross the Line for PSP/PSpgo and Nintendo DS.
Midway files for bankruptcy protection
Midway announced in a press release (February 12, 2009) that it has “filed voluntary petitions in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.”
According to the press release, the company’s recent ownership switch led to to “accelerated repurchase obligations” of debt that the company knew it could not repay. The protection will allow the company to “conduct its business operations as usual…”
Midway gets one more month to pay off creditors
As we reported last month (December 2008), Midway Games is in dire financial straits. Creditors could have demanded payment this month (January 2009) but have instead opted to extend the payment deadline to February 19, 2009.
Finances became even more of an issue for Midway when then majority shareholder Sumner Redstone unloaded his controlling interest for only $100,000 to investor Mark Thomas. The change in control triggered clauses in Midway’s debt agreements allowing noteholders to come a-callin’ right now.

Annual subscribers to Qore will get a spot on the Resistance 2 beta, exposing players to yet another great helping of World War II and space aliens which are both so sorely underused in this industry. Also, downloading the Home wallpaper will automatically sign you up for a possible crack at the Home beta.

Midway presents its E3 2008 lineup
Midway Games, like most other considerate E3 attendees, has announced a list of games which it will be displaying at the event. It looks like, this year, Midway is going a somewhat safe route when it comes to games, as it will be showing off new installments in its popular Mortal Kombat, Unreal Tournament and Touchmaster series at the event.
The selection this year seems to reflect Midway’s desire to reach two, very different audiences. Games like Unreal Tournament 3 (Xbox 360), Wheelman (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (PS3, Xbox 360) are being released for Midway’s faithful fans, while titles like Touchmaster 2 (DS) and Game Party 2 (Wii) are for casual players.
