Japan isn’t taking to glasses-free 3D TVs

The adoption rate of glasses-free 3D televisions isn’t as high as manufacturers would have hoped. Toshiba, who released 20 and 12-inch glasses-free 3D TVs for personal usage last December, saw sales fall well below expectations. Toshiba didn’t sell as many televisions it intended during the first month of release. Other manufacturers are seeing a similar trend.

CES 2011: Toshiba reveals glasses-free 3D laptop

And Nintendo thought they were only the ones coming out with a 3D device that doesn’t require wearing silly glasses. At a pre-CES party at the Venetian Hotel and Casino on Tuesday night, Toshiba showed off its shiny new, glasses-free 3D laptop. From what I saw on the prototype, it’ll be part of their Qosimo series.

CES 2011: Toshiba introduces tablet to rival the iPad

Toshiba has thrown down the gauntlet at Apple’s feet with its new tablet, which is being introduced at this year’s CES. I got the opportunity to briefly check it out at a Toshiba event party at the Venetian Hotel and Casino on Tuesday night (January 4, 2011). Director of Product Marketing Philip Osako was on hand to answer my questions.

CES 2011: Toshiba’s got a glasses-free 3D laptop

Toshiba is continuing its push into the glasses-free 3D marketplace. In October of last year, Toshiba revealed two 3D televisions that don’t require glasses. They only had 12 and 20-inch screens, but they were meant for individual use. At CES 2011 this week, Toshiba will have a working 3D laptop unit on display. We haven’t seen 3D gaming make a large push on PCs compared to consoles, but Toshiba’s offering makes 3D PC gaming all the more plausible.

Japan getting glasses-free 3D TVs in December

The television you see on the right may not be the sleekest design ever, but it does prove a point. Glasses-free 3D televisions are no longer technologically impossible, nor are they too expensive for public consumption. Toshiba announced two models of 3D televisions it will bring to market this December in Japan. They don’t have large screens, but it eliminates the need to buy multiple pairs of compatible 3D glasses.

Sony admits glasses-free 3D TV is “more convenient”

Sony has long defended the use of glasses in its 3D televisions. As one of the first manufacturers to debut 3D televisions, it’s understandable that Sony wanted to stand next to its products despite skepticism from critics. But Sony is facing a bit of a problem. Nintendo has proven that 3D images can be seen with the naked eye in the 3DS. Even though Sony said glasses help to absorb you into the 3D world, it’s now considering leaving 3D glasses behind.

CES 2010: Toshiba embraces 3D gaming with Cell TV

Toshiba’s Cell TV features four processors that clock in at over 3Ghz each. This makes the televisions faster than most standard PC’s. This boost in power helped to introduce a new technology named TriVector which Toshiba says will convert anything the television displays from 2D to 3D.

Toshiba launches the Satellite X205-SLi gaming notebook with Penryn processor

A PC gamer needs a deep pocket and to be an early adopter of change (of which there is plenty in computer technology). One of the newer technologies out there is the range of 45 nm Penryn processors from Intel that run cooler while providing increased speeds ideal for gaming use. Now Toshiba has introduced the latest and the meanest version of its flagship gaming notebook series. The Satellite X205-SLi has a cogent Penryn at its heart backed by NVIDIA’s SLI graphics, which will combine to give you the…
