Angry Birds to become an animated series (update)

Joining the ranks of Mario, Bomberman and Link, the latest video game to make the move to animated cartoon is going to be the franchise Angry Birds.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the animated series will be produced for TV or the web (although it was mentioned as a “broadcast” show which hints at TV). Rovio has not announced what company is producing the animation or when it will be released but Rovio CEO Mikael Hed has mentioned to C21media that the show is in the production phase.

Song of Ice and Fire tabletop game, novels may become HBO series

A Song of Ice and Fire is both a role-playing tabletop game and a novel quadrilogy. Now it seems that the game and novel is getting an HBO series with A Game of Thrones currently in production in Northern Ireland.

Of course, just because it is in production doesn’t mean the show will ever see the light of day.

The game is essentially Dungeons & Dragons with an equal amount of fantasy although it does reside in a medieval society. It’s a world of kings, heroes, assassins and heroes. Superstitions run wild but magic is, for lack of a better word, dead. It’s possibly because it had been outlawed and forgotten.

BRA-A-A-INS! Zombies to attack 26 cities to promote “The Walking Dead” on AMC

This week on Halloween day (October 31, 2010), AMC (American Movie Classics) will be starting a new drama series called The Walking Dead about a zombie epidemic that is threatening to end civilization as we know it (if it hasn’t already).

In celebration of this fact, AMC and FOX networks are hosting a world-wide zombie invasion stunt. The event will kick off with overseas invasions beginning at daybreak in Taipei and Hong Kong on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, and moving across the globe where the stunt culminates at the show’s Los Angeles premiere.

Gamertell Review: House, M.D., for Windows

Everyone’s favorite snarky doctor is back, this time in PC form.

House M.Dlets you solve cases and diagnose patients, all while making rude comments to your staff and patients and annoying Dr. Cuddy.

Gamertell Preview: WCG Ultimate Gamer Season 2, Episode 3

AJ received a double dose of heartbreak last week on World Cyber Games Ultimate Gamer. He got sent home and is out of the running for the $100,000 prize. Also, he’s no longer able to kick back in the cushy Ultimate Gamer pad and hang out with Faye. It was a hard fall from grace, considering he placed first in the “real life” challenge.

Kat and Ryan formed an unlikely alliance. It could be short-lived as…

Gamertell Preview: WCG Ultimate Gamer returns to SyFy tonight (August 19, 2010)

TV has been doing shows about competitive gaming since capitalized on the arcade craze of the ’80s. The latest TV show to try and capture the competitive fire of high level video gaming is World Cyber Games: Ultimate Gamer on Syfy. It combines gaming challenges with Survivor-style elimination games to eventually award a $100,000 grand prize to the Ultimate Gamer.

Ultimate Gamer reality TV game show returning to SyFy

The SyFy Channel is bringing back the reality game show Ultimate Gamer for a second season. The premiere episode of WCG Ultimate Gamer 2 will air on SyFy at 11:00 p.m. (ET) on August 19, 2010.

The show, much like other pseudo-reality game shows, pits 12 gamers against each other in trumped up competitions that are somehow related to video games. If it is like the first season of Ultimate Gamer (check out our preview) of the series, contestants will partake in three challenges each episode and hope to not be eliminated so they can compete in the final episode.

E3 2010: Hands-on Batman: The Brave and the Bold for Wii

I spent a little time playing Batman: The Brave and the bold at E3 2010 today (June 15, 2010). The game had only a few characters available and select levels for each to play. I happened to play as Green Lantern Guy Gardner and a random attendee stopped and played as Batman.

First, I was just stoked to play anything as a Green Lantern.

The animation was really nice with each character looking like their animated TV series (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) counterparts…

Alternate Disk-Tractions: Iron Man: the complete series on DVD

Oh man, I forgot how incredible awesome ’90s graphics were. First you have the slow moving action, the jumpy scene changes and the awesome expressions on the characters faces. It reminds me of being ten years old again and watching TV on a Saturday morning. You might also recognize a lot of the voice actors, like War Machine who is voiced by the dad from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air James Avery.

Alternate Disc-Tractions: Ruby-Spears Superman complete series DVD review

Celebrating Supe’s 50th anniversary, Ruby-Spears Productions miraculously got the rights to create Superman the animated TV series.

It exists in an awkward gap between the kitche-y late-1970s-to-early-1980s Super Friends cartoons and the slick 1990s Superman: The Animated series. It’s a series that only those who could bear the live-action Superboy TV series recall.

Superman goes far to embrace elements from print, film and even previous animated series, sometimes seeming disjointed but, by the time you get through all 13 episodes, becomes appropriate.
