Gamertell Interview: Yuking it up with RiffTrax trio Nelson, Murphy and Corbett
You know those jerks who talk over movies in the theater and you want to pelt them in the head with a frozen beverage? Well, Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame have made a career doing this and have zero head concussions (they’ll admit to).
The boys started a group known as RiffTrax where they take modern movies including Jurassic Park, Twilight and a google of others, making jokes – or “riffs” – during the movie. RiffTrax will be doing a live show Aug 19, 2010, featuring the 1938 cult classic, educational anti-marihuana film Reefer Madness.
Gamertell recently spoke with the three masterminds behind RiffTrax who had a lot to saw about their craft…
Scene It? Twilight now scaring DS owners
Next time you go into your local game store, you might want to be careful if you browse the DS sections. See, something we’ve all been hoping wouldn’t happen, has happened. Scene It? Twilight has been released. Konami shipped the to stores February 9, 2010, and they could be hidden among the stock right now.
Don’t panic! If you want to avoid exposure to both games, then you just have to be aware of your surroundings. If you see an unusual amount of sparkles around the DS games, and suddenly feel yourself overcome by a wave of what feels like teenage angst, then clear the area. It could be right beside you!
Scene It? Twilight is your standard Scene It? game, only it’s on the DS and focuses on the Twilight movie. It probably covers the first Twilight book as well, though the press release doesn’t mention anything about that. I’m just going by my experiences with the first Scene It? Harry Potter board game…
Buy a Wii peripheral, get 25% off a Wii game at Big Lots
Big Lots’ December 13-19, 2009 sales flier was sent out in the mail and in newspapers yesterday, and once again it has some game offers you can take advantage of this holiday season. Unfortunately, one of the sales requires you to purchase additional items and the other sale is on games that only a specific audience are going to want.
First, let’s look at the Wii game sale. Select Wii accessories will be in stock and on sale, specifically $20 Aerobic Steps for the balance board, a bowling ball and a sure shot rifle peripherals and a $30 skateboard deck mount balance board peripheral. If you purchase one of the peripherals mentioned above, you can then get up to two select Wii games for $14.16, 25% off of the normal $18.88 price. The seven games you can choose from are Alien Monster Bowling League, AMF Bowling, Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts, Gold’s Gym Workout, Jillian Michael’s Fitness, North American Hunting and We Ski. Honestly, I never knew a game like Alien Monster Bowling League even existed.
Big Lots also has two Twilight board games on sale, which should delight teenage fans of the books and movies…
First official Twilight video game will be Scene It? Twilight for the Wii
Konami, how could you? Things looked like they were going so well for you. You’ve got Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker coming out soon, not to mention Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Pop’n Music, SAW The Video Game and a new DDR game. But no, you had to turn to the dark side. You had to bring Twilight to the Wii and DS.
That’s right, Konami’s part of it. It’s teaming up with Screenlife for Scene It? Twilight. The game will be released not only as a standard DVD board game, but also on the Wii. There’ll also eventually be a DS incarnation, but that won’t be out until 2010. For now, let’s focus on the versions of the game that will be out before the The Twilight Saga: New Moon movie is released.
The Scene It? Twilight DVD board game will be out first, and Amazon’s saying it’ll be out October 1, 2009…
Eight possible Twilight games that wouldn’t entirely suck
I may not be a Twilight fan, but one doesn’t have to be to know it’s coming. The resulting wake from the movie and book releases guarantees that a video game adaptation isn’t far behind. It’s coming. There’s already one Twilight The Video Game entry in the works, a project by BrainJunk Studios. But there’s sure to be more, as many developers and publishers are going to want to cash in on the series’ success.
That being said, there are still options. This Twilight game doesn’t have to be shovelware. It could even end up being the kind of game people who normally wouldn’t even look at Twilight related material would play. If handled properly, it may not turn out all that bad.
Gamertell has put together a list of some Twilight game suggestions. Hopefully, they’re the sort of game that would appeal to all gamers, and not just fans of the series…
