Toys R’ Us has buy one game, get one game for $5 Black Friday deal
Toys R’ Us has not advertised this Black Friday deal, but several sources have confirmed it’s for real. You can get several new releases for $5 if you purchase one of the other titles on the list at full price. There’s great titles on there including Halo:Reach. There’s also a Cabela hunting game, but I am not here to judge anyone’s gaming tastes. The sale is from Thursday night at 10 p.m. – 1 p.m. Black Friday (November 26, 2010)
Check out Amazon’s October 20 video game Gold Box event
Amazon’s got a monster game sale going on today. You know how the site has a Gold Box, with limited time offers throughout the day? Today (October 20, 2010) it is filled with video game deals. There are going to be eight in all, with two revealed already. In addition, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Super Street Fighter IV have been reduced to $25, and will remain at that price all day, or until supplies run out.
Let’s take a quick look at what’s available and what will be available. Since unrevealed games are only indicated by hints, I’ll offer a suggestion as to what it could be…
Create the next badge for the VGVN
If you are gamer and a bit creative, an artist or just enjoy scribbling things on paper, then this contest is for you.
The Video Game Voters Network (VGVN) is having a badge design contest where the winning badge will be used to spread the word about the voters movement and the winner gets a hefty gift card.
According to the rules, the design must be original, it must incorporate the name “Video Game Voters Network,” the acronym “VGVN”, and/or the website address “www.vgvn.org” and you can enter as many designs as you want.
First induction announced on the Video game Hall of Fame
For many years the big names of the sports world, like Reggie Jackson, Broadway Joe Namath, Big Joe Montana and the mighty Jerry Rice, have entered the Halls of Fame for their outstanding feats in their respective sports. Now, heroes of a different kind are being given the same treatment when the International Video Game Hall of Fame (IVGHF) conducts its first induction ceremony on August 5, 2010.
Gamer couple sends awesome 8-bit wedding invitation (with video)
I guess I like weddings. Not that I’m planning on having one myself on the near future, but I’ve always liked a good party and they generally mean a fun time and maybe some catching up with old friends. Even though I enjoy the parties, I rarely pay attention to the details, especially to invitations. I know people take a lot of time choosing the right one, but most times I already know the details of the wedding months before the invitation arrives so I usually just throw them away. (Sorry to anyone just finding out.)
A couple in Germany have come up with an awesome idea for their wedding invitations. Instead of going with the boring, I mean traditional, paper or cardboard, they used a video game as an invitation.
The game, in all its vintage-8-bit glory, features a couple of stages where players can choose either the bride or the groom to rescue their significant other. The game takes inspiration from Super Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong and the reward for completing the game is the invitation to the wedding itself.
Defense expert says video games an effective recruiting tool for US military
Could the United States’ next General Patton be a 13-year-old currently playing Halo 3:ODST?
That is not as far fetched as it may seem, according to Washington Examiner columnist Peter W. Singer.
Singer notes United States Army officials’ testimony in Congress that video games including America’s Army are more effective than “any other method of contact” at recruiting potential soldiers. A 2008 Massachusetts Institute of Technology Study found that 30 percent of Americans aged 16-24 had a more positive impression of the Army because of that particular game.
Listen up! Ten voice actors every gamer should recognize
While gamers all enjoy video games with voice acting, they often tend to also take for granted the people behind the voices. Many times, the voice actor for a character isn’t even credited or listed, so people might just think someone sounds familiar, but not bother to confirm it.
Gamertell has compiled a list of 10 prolific, famous and noteworthy voice actors who have lent their talents to video games. Not all of the games that the following actors have appeared in will be mentioned, just a few of the more famous entries as well as significant roles in TV series.

Man beats girl with game controller
A man has been charged for assaulting a 2-year-old girl in York, PA (USA), with, of all things, a video game controller. The game controller might sound like a benign object but it can be lethal if used against a toddler, which it turned out to be in this case. The little girl is currently in a coma after receiving severe injuries to her head and body.

Dead Head Fred wins WGA’s first Video Game Writing award
In times when videogames are being anathematized by anti-game activists, one almost tends to forget that it is an art. A lot goes into the making of a videogame and it is when different disciplines – arts in their own right – espouse. One of those disciplines is videogame writing.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has, for the first time, bestowed recognition on videogame writing that is rightfully its due. And the PSP game Dead Head Fred was honored with the maiden Video Game Writing Award…
The era of Wii-habilitation
Revolution was what Nintendo had initially christened the Wii. The Wii has apparently lived up to its initial name by revolutionizing the video games industry. Beyond its impact on the games industry, it has also been touted as a fitness machine of sorts, though many studies in recent times have rebuffed it as a substitute for conventional exercise.
Wii-habilitation is the new term that medical practitioners have coined for Wii-aided rehabilitation. More and more rehabs are turning towards the Wii because it is fun and physical at the same time. The Wii can get the patients off the couch and on their feet…
