Overlooked themes in games
Upon reading this Kotaku piece on gaming’s next “hot destination”, I decided to throw on my thinking cap and come up with a few new ideas for game themes. While the piece in question deals with places – I’m all about historical periods and interesting events. That’s right, kids – it’s time to play with history!Vikings:Ok, so this is sort of hinted at in the Kotaku article, but imagine how cool it would be to play as a total badass viking warrior, either in a God of War style game or a more strategy-oriented title. You could pillage and plow through little defenseless villages and get back in your boat just in time for drinking songs! Heck, I could even go for a modern re-imagining of SNES classic The Lost Vikings.
Viking game coming to next-gen consoles
A game presented yesterday (August 21, 2007) by Sega at the Leipzig Convention will allow players to experience Norse mythology in a whole new way.
Vikings: Battle for Asgard puts players in control of a powerful yet flawed Viking warrior fighting to stop Hel, the goddess of death, from unleashing her armies and starting an apocalyptic battle known as Ragnarok. In this battle, Odin, Thor, Balder and other Asgardian gods clash with ice giants, huge serpents and evil gods from the Norse pantheon in an effort to save Midgard (Earth for us mortals) from total destruction. We can expect a few epic confrontations.
Vikings will be the first next-gen console title for its development team, The Creative Assembly, and it is slated for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 on spring 2008.
