Red Faction: Armageddon features a sketch mode

Red Faction: Armageddon isn’t always a serious affair. After all, the game is developed by Volition, the same developer behind the Saint’s Row franchise. The first step to lighten the serious atmosphere in Red Faction: Armageddon was the inclusion of Mr. Toots, the unicorn that shoots deadly rainbows from its rear. Today THQ revealed Sketch Mode for Red Faction: Armageddon with A-Ha’s “Take On Me” supplying the audio.

Red Faction: Armageddon PC/Mac demo exclusive to OnLive

How does a particular cloud gaming service convince PC and Mac gamers to give their service a try? The answer is by offering them something that no one else can. The Red Faction: Armageddon demo has been available on Xbox Live for a little while now, but the game is also coming to PC. Unfortunately, PC players have been haunted by these words from Volition: “To our PC players, unfortunately, we will not be providing a demo for that platform.” I’m happy to tell you that there is a PC and Mac demo available right now from OnLive.

Mars will crumble before Mr. Toots

Here’s a nice little challenge for us all to take part in while we’re passing the time. THQ released the demo for Red Faction: Armageddon today for Xbox 360 and PS3 (even though the service is still down) and it wants to get at least 1 million downloads across both platforms. If the public makes that happen, THQ will release Mr. Toots, a unicorn with a devastating special ability.

Saint’s Row: Drive-By has been cancelled

Almost one year ago, we were teased about an upcoming downloadable game in the Saint’s Row franchise. Saint’s Row: Drive-By was supposed to be released on XBLA and 3DS. It was going to be positioned in a way similar to what THQ did with Red Faction: Battlegrounds. Battlegrounds is a downloadable game that was meant to get the public excited about Red Faction: Armageddon. It also unlocks some additional content for Armageddon. Saint’s Row: Drive By was going to do the same thing, but it now appears that the game has been cancelled.

Lots of Sony Online Entertainment and THQ employees laid off

Today was not a good day to be an employee of Sony Online Entertainment or THQ. SOE cut a lot of employees and closed three studios. In all, SOE let 205 employees go, and closed studios in Seattle, Tucson and Denver. SOE felt the layoffs were necessary in order “to reduce costs and streamline its global workforce.” As the result of these redundancies, SOE also cancelled development of The Agency. THQ brought the hammer down on Volition and Kaos Studios.

Saint’s Row: The Third has upgradable weapons and a leveling system

Saint’s Row: The Third is the cover story of the latest issue of Game Informer. Game Informer is the first publication to get details about the game. Some subscribers have already gotten their copies, and are filling the internet with details about Saint’s Row: The Third. The game has undergone a lot of changes that all seem to be for the better. Weapon customization is a new feature that players are sure to get a kick out of. For example, there is a weapon called the Gravedigger which is basically a triple-barrel shotgun. Ouch.

Saint’s Row: The Third officially revealed

Saint’s Row 3 The images uncovered by Neogaf were true. THQ has confirmed the third game in the Saint’s Row franchise will be Saint’s Row: The Third. The game is being developed by Volition for release on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC during the 2011 holiday season. Details are very scarce, but we can learn a lot more about this game in the April issue of Game Informer magazine. Subscribers should start getting their issues any day now.

Rumor: Saint’s Row 3 releases during Holiday 2011

Saint’s Row 3 is coming. We know it, and THQ knows it. The question is when the game will be released. A couple images surfaced on Neogaf that are supposedly from Game Informer, THQ and Volition. They contain the trademark purple attire worn by the Saints, and the fleur-de-lis symbol that identifies the Saints.

inSane trilogy will be in development for a long time

inSane is the new videogame trilogy that is being developed by Volition and published by THQ. This is the game that involves Guillermo del Toro, who directed Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. There were rumors surrounding del Toro’s entry into videogame development, but it wasn’t made official until the Spike Video Game Awards last Saturday. His game, entitled inSane, is scheduled to be released in 2013. That’s a long time from now, but the entire trilogy will take substantially longer.
