Review: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

Space Marines in the Warhammer 40,000 universe are awesome. They’re stronger than normal humans, better armed and more armored than regular soldiers. They also border on immortal since they age far slower than normal humans and are far harder to kill. Yet, when you get down to the characters in the stories, they still feel very human even though they most assuredly aren’t completely human.

There’s a whole wealth of usually ultraviolent directions with actual stories that a game based solely on this general faction of the universe can be. That’s why I was really excited when I first heard that there was a shooter that would be allowing you to play as a Space Marine.

Opinion: Make more Warhammer movies, please

Last November, Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie was released. Save for the limited release, erratic pacing, being too short and lacking character development, the movie was actually pretty solid. It also worked as a good way bridge the gap between people who are avid players within this niche franchise and people (gamers and non-gamers alike) more »

Living Card Game regionals begin May 2011, begin practicing now

Fantasy Flight Games recently announced that the beginning of their 2011 Living Card Game (LCG) Regionals season is about ready to begin and are looking for retailers or tournament organizers to host their Regional Championship Tournaments.

The tournaments will be based on the three LCG games: Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game, Call of Cthulhu LCG and A Game of Thrones LCG. If you’re a player, you’ve got plenty of time to brush up on your game as the season runs from May 2 to June 13, 2011. Computer gaming is fun and all but it still can’t match playing face-to-face, actually meeting people and making friends.

Seven best horror games for a snowy day

Is winter weather getting you down? Being cooped up due to the weather, especially if you live in a usually lively city, is probably getting rather boring. Trust me. Being a Chicago native, I know due to the recent “blizzard”. You’ve got quite a few options to occupy your time, though. This is going to be a list of some of the best horror games to distract yourself with while you’re trapped within your house.

Some of these do require power but a few games in the list only require a light source (preferably a little spooky), pencils, paper and dice.

Review: Ultramarines (A Warhammer 40,000 movie)

Ultramarines follows a 12-man squad of Ultramarines as they are sent to respond to a distress call from an Imperial shrine that’s guarded by a different legion of space marine, the Imperial Fists. The squad is predominantly rookie-based and are looking for combat so that they can join the list of veterans in the Ultramarines. Soon some realize there is something wrong about this mission as they start running into the forces of Chaos that surround and, in some cases, infest the Imperial holy ground…

Gamertell Review: The Horus Heresy: Prospero Burns by Dan Abnett

A Thousand Sons brought one of the more interesting legions of the Adeptus Astartes into the light. It also detailed their fall from grace, simply because they wanted to do right by the Emperor by sending a warning regarding Horus’s treasonous plan. It also showed the start of the Space Wolves sacking Prospero, the home planet of the sorcerer-soldier legion.

The book Prospero Burns has a lot to do with the fall of Prospero, as you might gather from the title. This time, though, while developing the Space Wolves legion, there’s a new perspective on the events of revolving around the rivalry between the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons legions.

Gamertell Review: Warrior Priest by Darius Hinks

When you look at the Empire in Warhammer, you see a large group of different armies that fight to preserve the honor of Sigmar and the lands of man. Each of the Empire Army novels covers a different group within the imperial army. One of the more interesting groups are those of the warrior priests, which, naturally, the book Warrior Priest covers.

Ultramarines movie to be released November 29, 2010

The release of the first Warhammer 40,000 feature-length straight-to-DVD movie, simply titled Ultramarines, is coming up. To be more precise, the movie’s worldwide release, according to the film’s website, will be November 29, 2010.

Gamertell Review: The Horus Heresy: Nemesis by James Swallow

It was bound to happen that the Horus Heresy series would have a book that almost exclusively focused on the behind-the-scenes aspect of war. Nemesis is that book.

The question is whether or not it actually lives up to the work that the majority of the series had laid out. To put it simply, it does but it could be so much better.

BioWare Mythic employee says The Old Republic “Is a joke”

Employees can become very bitter when they’ve become fed up with management. A former Realtime Worlds developer went off on his former bosses on his blog, and now a soon-to-be former employee for BioWare Mythic has done the same thing. Referred to only as EA Louse, this man or woman has bashed Electronic Arts and BioWare Mythic on the subject of Warhammer and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Among their rant are reasons why Warhammer failed and how The Old Republic will be one of the biggest failures the MMO community has ever seen.
