Cyber Monday 2010: Halo Legends, Harry Potter, Batman Blu-ray movies for less than $10 each

If you need a movie or two or ten to play on your PS3 to prove it does Blu-ray movies well, this is a great day to buy a few.

The Warner Bros. online store has a Cyber Monday sale going on right now that feels more like a Clearing House than a Holiday sale.

Today (Monday, November 29, 2010) only you can get many DVDs and Blu-rays for about 60% off…

E3 2010: Hands-on (or hands-off?) with Game Party: In Motion using Kinect for Xbox 360

I put in a bit of time (over two days) with Warner Bros. Interactive’s Game Party: In Motion during E3 2010.

The title, which consists of 16 party style mini games, relies heavily on the Xbox 360′s Kinect full-body motion control system.

I primarily played two games: Rootbeer Tapper (stress on root and bot beer, because this is a family game) and a football tossing game. Both can be played as a single player or two-player game…

E3 2010: Lego Harry Potter for the Wii

While at E3 I made my way over to the WB booth to check out the Lego Harry Potter game for the wii.

Like the other Lego games you get to play as many different characters, and can even switch between them at will. Each character has different abilities that might be useful as well.

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats returning in new animated series and as toys

Warner Bros. has joined forces with Bandai to resurrect (like Mumm-Ra) the Thundercats franchise.

Don’t lie, you know you’ve been waiting almost two decades for this.

Warner Bros acquires Turbine, now owns LOTR, D&D Online

Warner Bros. Entertainment Group recently announced that it has acquired Turbine Inc., the Boston-based developer of popular online role-playing games The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) and Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO).

Turbine has long been known for its MMORPGs, having also developed Asheron’s Call back in 2001. It’s recently been known for successfully and smoothly switching their business model for DDO from a monthly-based subscription to a free-to-play method. They still offer monthly subscriptions but their focus is on the free-to-play system.

Warner Bros. DVD2Blu program offers cheap DVDs to Blu-ray movie upgrades

If you are trying to replace all those standard definition DVDs with higher def Blu-ray discs, Warner bros. wants to help. Well, at least with their own movies.

Dubbed the DVD2Blu program, you send your old DVDs (sans box) to WB, pay a replacement fee ($7.95 to $9.95) per movie and the company will send you a Blu-ray version of the movie.

There are currently 55 movies on the DVD2Blu list to choose from and, if you spend more than $25, they waive the shipping cost. That basically means you need to find three or four movies to replace, depending on the replacement cost.

Midway initiates Section 363 process, Warner Bros. expected to bid

As we know, Midway is bankrupt and selling it’s assets to the highest bidder. Midway announced on May 21, 2009, that it entered into a “stalking horse” asset purchase agreement with Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and filed a sale and bid procedures motion with the Bankruptcy Court to conduct the sale of the Company’s assets pursuant to Section 363 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. In other words, Warner Bros. is looking to bid on the company.

A “stalking horse” is a person who tests a concept with someone on behalf of an anonymous third party. If the idea proves viable and/or popular, the anonymous figure can then declare their interest and advance the concept with little risk of failure. If the concept turns out to be terrible, the anonymous party can either drop the idea completely or wait until a better moment for launching an attack.

Free digital download and a few decent extras including a few animated short films on BD-Live.Cons: BD-Live still needs some work for smoother community interaction and incorporating PS3 features (including the video camera).Overall Score: Two thumbs up; 91/100; A-; * * * * out of five.

I’ve already given The Dark Knight a glowing review so I’ll skip the equally glowing rehash and concentrate on the extra features included in this worthy three-disc Blu-ray release including BD-Live.

Dark Knight coming to home video December 9, 2008

While I’m in a BatMood, Waner Home Video today (September 26, 2008) announced that Dark Knight will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 9, 2008.

Since Dark Knight was partially shot using IMAX cameras, the Blu-Ray release will include IMAX and regular ol’ HD footage. Warner is going whole hog with the Blu-Ray and including BD-Live features which, according to the press release, “allows users with web-enabled Blu-ray players to access exciting additional content and connect and share with other BD-Live users…”

Fight over Watchman heating up

If all that excitement over the recent Watchman trailer wasn’t enough for you, consider the legal drama over the film’s right to exist. Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox are locked in what could be a very bloody battle with the film (directed by Zack Snyder and set to release on March 6, 2009) at more »
