Wii can’t believe how lazy publishers can be when naming games

The Wii seems to grant game developers and publishers a special license to abandon their senses and create some of the most ludicrous and uninventive titles. It’s like they feel they must capitalize on, and exploit, the successful Wii name in order to help sell a game and identify their product. I can imagine the flow of conversations at companies when discussing titles for new games:

“We have a new game coming out for the Wii. What should we call it?”

Wii Ski? We Ski?”

“We love it!”

Today, Gamertell’s looking at a few of the Wii game titles that have cashed in, or better yet – sold out, and incorporated “we” or “Wii” into the title in an attempt to be clear or clever…

Namco Bandai gives Claires customers a reason to cheer

Namco Bandai has just announced a new contest for its We Cheer target audience. The company is teaming up with Claires accessory stores for the We Cheer Sweepstakes. From October 1-November 4, 2008, Claires customers will receive an entry slip. Or, you can visit the We Cheer site and enter online.

The five grand prizes in the sweepstakes are a copy of We Cheer and a Wii to play it on. One $50 Claires gift card and 10 $20 Claires gift cards will also be distributed. Not a bad way to promote a new game…

We Cheer song list revealed

Ok, so there are games for cooking, having babies and losing weight – so its only natural that a cheer leading game should make its way to the Wii. Actually, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened sooner – at least cheer leading does have a real rhythm/competition aspect that lends itself to more traditional gameplay than say, teaching children. But I digress – Namco-Bandai has just released the full track list for its upcoming cheer leading game We Cheer, set to drop on the Wii on September 30, 2008.

The set list is none too shabby, featuring bouncy tracks from famous artists like KC & The Sunshine Band, Moby and C+C Music Factory. Good stuff, really, even if you’d never want your friends to see you hopping and bopping to it. The gameplay sounds like a mix of traditional rhythm/action style hijinks and choreography, with multiplayer modes and fully customizable cheerleaders for maximum perky fun.
