Review: The Kore Gang for Nintendo Wii
The Kore Gang plays like your typical Saturday afternoon alien invasion movie, only this time the aliens are invading from inner-Earth, not outer space. If you’re looking to fill the gap between The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Xenoblade Chronicles, this is the game to get.
Review: WWE ’12 for Wii
If you haven’t played a WWE wrestling game in a while, WWE ’12 is certainly good enough to draw you out of retirement and back into the ring. The stable of wrestlers is fairly robust, and unlockables should keep you happy enough that you forgive the lack of downloadable updates. Whether it’s enough to warrant an upgrade from WWE ’11, however, depends up on what you like most about professional wrestling.
Review: Madden NFL 12
Madden NFL has finally hit its stride on the Wii. EA has been messing around with the formula pretty much since the Wii launch, making big changes such as the failed throwing motion pass system and the recent stylized look of the players. Madden NFL 12 doesn’t bring any drastic changes around, it just tightens up what’s already there and offers a few new options, creating the best Madden the Wii has ever seen.
Gamertell Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Episode 1
Gamers new to Sonic may try this out and wonder what all the fuss is about. I’m not sure this is for them, even though it’s more enjoyable than the other recent Sonic incarnations we’ve seen. I can’t tell younger gamers whether they should start here or just go with the original Sonic games on the Virtual Console. But fans of the series won’t want to miss this. By going back to the basics, Sega has delivered the best Sonic game of this generation of consoles.
Gamertell Review: Arc Rise Fantasia for Nintendo Wii
Perhaps you’ve made a long road-trip with your friends. You’re piled in a car with people you generally like, but there’s that one guy who’s so annoying that his very voice makes you want to crash headlong into a concrete divider just to shut him up. Well, that guy is half the characters in Ignition Entertainment’s Arc Rise Fantasia. And that’s a shame, because they’re spoiling an otherwise memorable trip.
Gamertell Review: Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon for Wii
The drive to discover new locations—coupled with the desire to give Seto some lasting happiness—kept me going when combat/control frustration would’ve otherwise set in with Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. This will sound dorky, so I apologize, but looking back at the game it really does sort of feel like a dream. It’s one I recall fondly but only because the generally pleasurable experience makes it easy to forget the bad parts.
Gamertell Review: Red Steel 2 for Wii
Red Steel 2 is full of style. It’s a western with motorcycles, trucks, swords and crazy samurai dudes in face paint. The hero (named The Hero) wears one of those long coats that look fantastic blowing in the wind, even though it tends to happen when there’s no wind. But the game is not about style, it’s about sword play. Providing nearly 1:1 motion recognition, no other game has come this close to delivering such an immersive sword fighting experience. But that’s not completely a good thing.
Gamertell Review: Calling for Wii
Hudson Soft’s Calling is the latest survival horror game for the Wii. There have been plenty of these as of late, and Calling is happy to wedge itself somewhere between Ju-On: The Grudge (a haunted house simulator) and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (a psychological thriller), except that Calling is actually better than both. You heard me…Calling is better than Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and that’s simply because it’s scarier. Much scarier.
Gamertell Review: The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for Wii
The combination of flight-sim and arcade action makes for an odd little anti-war wargame that also happens to be the best air combat sim currently on the Wii. It has its troubles, none of which should deter you if you’ve been pining for quality dogfighting action since finishing Blazing Angels.
The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces won’t take over your gaming world but it’s a title you’ll have plenty of fun going back to when you need a break from whatever else you’re playing.
Gamertell Review: James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game for Wii
James Cameron’s Avatar The Game is unique among movie tie-ins in that, rather than basing it on the movie, it appears to be based on the trailer. Or maybe just the one sheet or concept drawings. I don’t know but if you buy this expecting to play through the rather thrilling adventure that is Avatar, prepare to be disappointed.
