Dear Santa: A gamer’s wish list for Christmas 2008

Dear Santa,

We’ve been good little boys and girls this year. In fact, we’ve been so good we want to offer you a proposition.

Instead of trying to cram multiple copies of Guitar Hero World Tour Complete Band Kit into your sleigh or shoving little old ladies out of the way to pick up a couple Wii’s, how about you use your advanced Santa magic to help all the video game lovers in the world?

It doesn’t matter whether they’ve been good or bad this year, we can vouch for their dedication to the cause.

There are some things about the video game industry that we solemnly wish you would change. We think the granting of these three simple wishes would make for a much happier holiday season for gamers years to come…

Look who’s still making games for the PS2

While many gamers may have jumped ship to the comfort of the cell microprocessors that power the Playstation 3, the accrual of Playstation 2 titles have yet to come to a complete halt. The pickings may be slim but many developers, such as Atlus, continue to show faith in this 8-year-old console by releasing highly anticipated titles exclusively for the Playsation 2. Other developers, like Electronic Arts, show their support by continuing to develop Playstation 2 versions of popular multi-platform games.

Click through for a list of popular developers and the more notable games that are planned for release in time to make it onto your 2008 Christmas wish list…

PS3 gift guide for Christmas 2007

While shopping around on the internet for upcoming PlayStation 3 games I came across this list by Roger Altizer on About.com. He listed his top ten PS3 picks for the Holiday Gift guide. Although he largely plays it safe with highly anticipated games of the year, some were righteously deserving to be on this list. Here are Altizer’s picks and a few of my own. And, if any of my friends are reading this article … if you plan to get me a game, read the list or may a lump of coal find your stocking on Christmas Eve.

  1. The Eye of Judgment. Altizer describes it as “an incredible game, but is one of the most original, and represents one of the best values you can find in PS3 gamine. Not only do you get a game the likes of which has never existed before, but you also get the new PlayStation Eye (PlayStation USB camera) included with it, as well as a deck of cards and a play mat.” This is on my “to buy” list, the commercials seem very appealing and it does combine my two favorite forms of gaming — trading card games and my PS3. This game is rated T for Teen.
  2. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction “is not only the prettiest game on the PS3, it may be one of the best looking on any system, ever. There is a reason that so many reviewers game this game a perfect score, it is a nearly perfect game,” Altizer said. The first Ratchet and Clank game was fun but I’m not certain I would put this on my own list just yet … maybe if I find a copy in the bargain bin. This game was rated E10+ for everyone over 10 and older.

Kotaku staffers scribble their Holiday wish lists

2007 will no doubt go down in gaming history as one of the best years in the industry’s history, both for quality and gross revenue. Not since the days of the original Playstation and the N64 has the public been bombarded by such a large choice of gaming goodies. Now with Christmas just around the more »
