July 2010 NPDs: Xbox 360 rules the month
The July NPD sales figures have just been released. It’s not the greatest month the videogame industry has ever seen. As we recall, the summer months have been under a dry spell. Naturally, console sales have not been pushed by a huge release on just about every platform. StarCraft II is the exception, but its sales are not present in this months NPD’s. According to NPD analyst Anita Frazier, StarCraft II boosted PC game sales by 103% over July 2009.
Microsoft will sell standalone 250GB hard drives
Several days ago, Microsoft revealed the true price of Kinect and a Xbox 360 S bundle that would be accompanying it. This particular model will have 4GB of internal flash memory and an expansion slot that can house a hard drive. Though Microsoft have not announced whether it will sell hard drives for the Xbox 360 S separately, a box photo of the 4G Xbox 360 S seems to have beat Microsoft to the punch.

Japan loves the Xbox 360 Slim
Xbox 360 sales in Japan skyrocketed following the release of the Xbox 360 Slim. Last week over 17,000 Xbox 360′s were sold. $15,000 of those happened to be the slimmed down model. Monster Hunter Frontier Online also played a huge role in the console’s week long success. Monster Hunter was released around the same time as the new Xbox 360 model. The boost in sales has been a refreshing change in the Xbox 360′s sales climate in Japan.
Xbox 360 Slim contains fail-safe components
he Xbox 360 Slim’s “red dot of possible death” indicates the 360 is shutting itself down to prevent damage to the console due to insufficient ventilation. Once it has cooled down, the red dot will disappear and you can turn it back on. Should you receive this warning, we recommend you find a new place to store your Xbox 360 Slim before it melts itself.
$199 Xbox 360 slim coming Fall 2010
Microsoft officially announced the Xbox 360 slim last week at E3 2010. The new unit comes with a 250GB hard drive and built in Wi-Fi for $299. Retailers everywhere have been selling out of the new Xbox 360 since it was available for pre-order. If this price point is too high for the family, Microsoft will be selling a cheaper version this Fall.
