Xbox Live Gold access has already been granted to everyone until February 5, but we won’t have to wait too long before free Gold access will become available again. The Mass Effect 3 demo, which will be released on February 14, will unlock Xbox Live Gold until the full game launches on March 6.

If you check the Kmart ad for July 31-August 6, 2011, you’ll see five different Xbox 360-related promotions to choose from. I guess it’s time to look into buying an Xbox 360 or a Kinect, or at the very least to stock up on Xbox Live Gold subscriptions and Kinect games. One of the promotions does require you to be a Kmart Shop Your Way Rewards member, but it’s free to become a member and it’s worth it.

So if you’ve been holding off on buying some new releases, this could be your chance to restock your game library…

Those of you who don’t have a Xbox Live Gold subscription may want to reconsider that stance after you hear about a new promotion. On the Xbox Live dashboard, there is an offer for three months of Xbox Live service for $9.99. Microsoft says this price is 60% less than what it would usually cost.

Microsoft has started another program that awards participants for using Xbox Live Gold. You may remember the Xbox Live Rewards program that gives away Reward Points for engaging in normal Xbox Live activities. The Xbox Live Refer-a-Friend program is sort of similar to that, but awards persuasion over passive actions. Simply put, Microsoft will give you one of four prizes for referring a friend to Xbox Live Gold. This program will run until June 30, 2011 and is only open to residents of the United States.

Toys R Us’ two day sale this week is a little random. Yes, the six page ad is filled with sale items, but there isn’t anything really striking. There are a few deals worth looking at, but honestly the $19.99 three month Xbox Live Gold Subscription is probably the best deal there. Well, that and all clearance video games are still 50% off. But usually those clearance games are in the bargain bin for a reason.

I think it’s safe to say multiplayer is the main draw of Call of Duty: Black Ops. I think it’s safer to say multiplayer is what the majority of people want to play in a CoD game since the original Modern Warfare. It’s one of the only games where someone would admit to playing the multiplayer before the single-player story. If you’re playing on Xbox Live, which is the dominant platform for CoD games, you’re going to need an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Microsoft also raised the yearly subscription price to $59.99. Microsoft gave a decent explanation for the price hike, but that doesn’t mean we have to pay full price.
