First in-game footage from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Bethesda released the first in-game footage from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim this morning in the form of a nearly three minute long trailer. It doesn’t matter whether or not you’re willing to name your kid Dovahkiin in order for you to enjoy this video. This brief look at Skyrim looks to be leaps and bounds over Oblivion from a graphical standpoint. Once you view the trailer, you’ll think so too.

ZeniMax acquires MachineGames, new AAA game in development

ZeniMax has been on an acquisition roll lately. Zenimax recently bought Tango Gameworks, which is the studio headed by the creator of Resident Evil. Prior to that, ZeniMax welcomed Arkane Studios and id Software into its growing company. MachineGames is currently working on a AAA game using the id Tech 5 engine, that MachineGames’ CEO says will, “push the game development envelope.” id Software’s upcoming game RAGE uses this same engine.

Resident Evil creator joins ZeniMax

ZeniMax Media announced today (October 28, 2010) that it has acquired Tango Gameworks, a deal that also brings famed game developer Shinji Mikami into the company’s team of developers. Mikami is the creator of the Resident Evil franchise and was director on the recently released Vanquish. Tango Gameworks is now a division of ZeniMax Asia and joins Bethesda, id Software and Arkane Studios under the ZeniMax umbrella.

Bethesda’s parent company purchases id Software

This one came out of nowhere – ZeniMax, the parent company of Fallout 3 and Oblivion developer Bethesda, has just announced its acquisition of id Software (best known for the Doom and Quake franchises). According to a report at Gamasutra, Bethesda will publish all of id’s currently unsigned projects (EA already has the upcoming Rage), and the move is being seen as the company really stepping up it’s publishing side.
