Microsoft stopping production on Zune hardware

Microsoft has reportedly pulled the plug on the Zune. According to a report from Business Insider, Microsoft will no longer produce new versions the Zune hardware. Zune units that are currently on store shelves will continue to be sold as normal. The report doesn’t specify if Microsoft is halting Zune production immediately, or if it will continue to make them for the foreseeable future.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 holiday sale has ‘Splosion Man for $2

Yesterday, Sony announced a one-week sale that will take place on PSN. Sony is discounting some games by 50% in order to take advantage of all the Black Friday shenanigans that will be going down this week. Not ones to be left out in the cold, Microsoft has announced its own series of Xbox 360, XBLA and Zune movie deals that are also set for November 23-29.

Xbox Live Zune Marketplace down for 24 hours

From 10pm (PST) for up to 24 hours, the Zune Marketplace will be inaccessible. Microsoft says it is working to improve the Zune Marketplace’s overall service on Xbox Live, but did not give any specifics on what that means. During this downtime you will be unable to rent or purchase videos from the Zune Marketplace. The library that you already have set up will continue to work just fine.

Xbox Live update includes new features, Facebook and Twitter account access

This Tuesday (November 17, 2009) Microsoft unleashed a new update for it’s Xbox 360 system.

The new update includes the ability to use a bigger screen, a clearer picture and accessibility from the comfort of your living room couch.

To access all this cool stuff, you need an Xbox live membership, and of course an Xbox 360 system. All these updates are available now, and you should see it right when you log onto your profile.

E3 2009: Digesting the Microsoft E3 2009 keynote

Never before have I ever been as excited about announcements from a keynote as I am right now from the Microsoft keynote that took place yesterday (June 1, 2009) afternoon.

While I should be reserving judgment, what can Sony or Nintendo really bring to the table that would trump Microsoft at this point? Microsoft has made it clear that the Xbox 360 is fast becoming the all around home entertainment experience that Sony wanted (or wants) the PlayStation 3 to be and Nintendo, who knows what Nintendo wants at this point? They already have the best selling console and handheld so I’m sure they will be kicking it easy…

E3 2009: Last minute E3 Predictions

Yeah, the predictions aren’t something one would find whacked out on peyote while deeply gazing into a crystal ball. They are just real, most likely to happen guesses. No gaming on the Zune any time soon

I recently contacted one of Microsoft’s PR reps (from PR company Edelman) about the Zune to find out if there will be any gaming available on Microsoft’s portable music device. Here was the the response:

“At this time, gaming is not available on Zune. It makes sense that Zune could be a part of a gaming experience, but there has been no determination of how that will be executed or when it will happen.”
