Itching for some holiday shopping deals but don’t want to wait the rest of the month to start saving? Amazon has kicked off its Countdown to Black Friday with some wicked good deals on Blu-rays and other goodies.
Of particular interest to Alien fans is today’s Gold Box Deal of the Day, which includes the massive Alien Anthology Blu-ray set for $19.49 — a full fifty cents cheaper than the best deal we’ve seen on the set so far. Six discs. New cuts. Literally hours and hours of new supplemental material you’ve never seen before if you don’t own this set, all produced by my buddy Charles de Lauzirika, and all for less than twenty clams.
Speaking of Alien (and Charlie), if you saw Prometheus in theaters there’s a good chance you skipped the Blu-ray when it was released. Needless to say, the flick didn’t end up being nearly as intelligent as promised and it felt like it was edited by Edward Scissorhands. But de Lauzirika’s incredible 220-minute The Furious Gods: Making Prometheus is, in my humble opinion, one of the finest making-of documentaries ever made. It’s worth $25 bucks on its own even if you loathed the movie, not only for its in-depth and honest look at what could have (and should have) been had Damon Lindelof kept his paws off the script, but also for its exhaustive look at the movie-making process. Thankfully, you don’t have to pay $25 for it. The Furious Gods is included on the Prometheus Blu-ray, which you can snag today in Amazon’s Countdown to Black Friday for just $9.49. Totally worth it.
Incidentally, EntertainmentTell is reporting that Lindelof isn’t mucking up the sequel to Prometheus, so there’s hope for that one yet.
Back over at Amazon, other goodies include hidden deals on Star Trek: The Next Generation complete season Blu-rays (for $58.49 a pop), as much as 63% off of DC Comics movies and TV shows, and more.
