A few weeks ago, we reported on Savant adding former Barnes & Noble exec William Lynch as its CEO, emphasizing the move to lower-priced home automation solutions for the masses.
Today, Savant announced a sub-$1000 home automation system, the Smart Series, designed to do just that. Smart Series products bring the Savant experience to a broader audience, with complete packages starting at $1,599, including the new Smart Host remote and controller ($799). The release says, “Deployed over multiple rooms within the home, this brings the cost of a Savant solution as low as $1K per room.”
Those of us who have been following the home automation industry for a while know that this pricepoint is pretty impressive, especially considering the reputation of Savant products. With this move, not to mention the wording in the press release that describes Savant as “a leader in smart home technology” rather than the previous “innovator in the home and commercial automation markets,” Savant moves away from the stigma of home automation as being expensive. Instead, the company embraces the marketing value of the “smart home” nomenclature and the public perception that smart home control is available to everyone, not just the rich and famous.
The company also refers to the Internet of Things in the release: “[Savant] provides homeowners seamless, simple and reliable management of “the internet of things,” all easily controlled via leading portable devices including iOS and Android”–further positioning itself for domination of the”smart home.” This is definitely a big step for Savant to a more mid-market position.
Having established a leadership position in the luxury smart home segment with the Pro Series, Savant now brings the same break-through software-based solution to a broader market with the Smart Series technology. The foundation of the new lineup is the Smart Host, which coupled with Savant’s industry leading software, delivers the most sought after smart home features such as lighting control, energy management, climate control, whole-house entertainment and more.
The new Smart Series product line will be offered through Savant’s network of over 1,500 authorized integrators in 35 countries.
