Polk DXi650sWhen I hear the name Polk Audio, I usually think of great sounding (and great looking) towers or surround speakers that function best in a high-end home theater setting. Polk is looking to change that perception at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show by introducing the DXi speakers series and the PA digital amplifier line that are designed specifically for automobiles and boats.

The DXi speakers are specifically tuned to play over loud engine or motor noise with the help HP and LP filters that reduce distortion. These speakers are also manufactured to survive in harsh environments. The speakers’ PP cones and butyl rubber surrounds are UV-treated, and their aluminum grilles shouldn’t corrode during prolonged use at sea.

The DXi line includes:

The DXi5000 5-inch full range model (SRP: $109.95/pair).
The DXi5250 5.25-inch component with 1-inch tweeter (SRP: $209.95/system),
A 6.5-inch Slim Mount (SRP: $119.95/pair)
The DXi1000 1-inch tweeter ($119.95/pair)

Polk’s PA Digital Amplifiers are designed with tight spaces or compact applications in mind. These amps come in two-channel ($279), four-channel ($389), Mono ($389), and five-channel ($499) varieties and are among the smallest in their class. The PA series includes band pass filters and bridgeable multichannel modes, and have been designed for high power and efficiency.
