The SACD release of Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here is the stuff of legend, and now that the band’s 40th anniversary is upon us, myth will become reality. Each album in the band’s catalog will be reissued, with Discovery, Experience, and Immersion editions all in the offing. Discovery is your basic remastered reissue, while the Immersion sets add bonus materials. The Immersion editions are so full of bonus material it borders on the obscene, and include Blu-ray audio editions in 96khz/24-bit hi-res audio. A breakdown of these uber-edtions follows

Digital downloads and vinyl versions will follow in 2012. But what about that SACD? It’s been licensed by Acoustic Sounds, and will be released in parallel with everything else. In fact just about the only format not mentioned has been the almost as dreamed about Rock Band video game (though with E3 in a few weeks, who knows?). It’s best to start saving your pennies now however, the Immersion sets are going for just over $100 a pop on Amazon.com, and there’s no separate Blu-ray release on tap any time soon.

  1. What 40th Anniversary would that be? The band formed around 1964 and released their first album in 1967…
