Krell Industries, makers of high-performance audio and video equipment, has expanded its Evolution e Series lineup to include two new amplifiers: the Evolution 2250e, and the Evolution 3250e. The 2250 is ideal for stereo music, while the three-channel 3250 would function better in a home theater setup.
The specifications for both units are impressive. The 2250 boasts a 2,500 VA power transformer and 136,000 µF of capacitance. The 2250’s power output of 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 500 watts per channel into 4 ohms is plenty for any loudspeaker. The 3250 uses the same power transformer, but with additional capacitance (163,200 µF total), which allows for full performance when all three channels are used simultaneously. Even though both models pack a significant punch, these are the smallest amplifiers in Krell’s Evolution e Series, and are perfect for setups where space is an issue.
The 2250 sells for $8,000, and the 3250 is priced at $10,000. At these prices, the new amplifiers are still for the most serious home theater enthusiasts, but compare these to the 400e Mono Amplifier I wrote about back in November ($24,000 for a pair) and they are actually a bit of a bargain.
