I have a love/hate relationship with Spotify. As someone who digs music, I love the fact that Spotify makes it easier for me discover new bands. But as a purist — and a guy that didn’t buy his first MP3 player until 2008 — I hate the fact that I can’t hold that new band’s album in my hand. Spotify is a handy tool, though, and now Onkyo is making it easier for users to access Spotify with an updated Android app.
Onkyo was the first electronics manufacturer to allow customers access to Spotify through its receivers. Owners of select Onkyo receivers (TX-NR609/709/809/1009/3009/5009 and HT-RC360/370 ) and home theater systems (HT-S7400/7409/8400/8409 and 9400THX) will be granted direct access to Spotify’s premium service via Onkyo’s Android app. A firmware update is all that’s required for Onkyo owners to make the jump.
