First, Disney started making Blu-ray combo packs available for sale before the DVD hit shelves, and now it looks like other studios may be following suit. As we reported previously, Family Video’s response was to offload Blu-ray copies they didn’t want for ridiculously low prices.
Likely a result of new regulations on rental copies that must be returned for destruction (thereby killing the ability to sell previewed copies, a major source of income for rental stores), Family Video has staged a new rebellion by hocking Ultraviolet digital copy codes for well under the price of a normal rental. So get ’em while they’re hot, because who knows how long this will last, or how long before studio retaliation brings about the next salvo from either side.
