Procella Audio has a short but strong pedigree in the high-end audio market. The Swedish company was founded by two former Directors of DTS Europe. Yep, that DTS. Procella’s first loudspeaker system was a 32-seat preview theater at the DTS Europe headquarters. Their loudspeakers aim to create the best theater rooms you can find. With the introduction of the DA-2800, they now have an amplifier to compliment their loudspeakers.
The DA-2800 is a 4-channel amp capable of delivering 2,800 Watts into 4 ohm loads. It’s rated at 700W per channel at 4 ohms and 360W per channel at 8 ohms. You can also bridge channel pairs, creating 1,400W at 8ohms.
Two versions of the amp are available: the standard DA-2800 and the DA-2800DSP, which adds on-board DSP for each channel, as well as Ethernet control. The preprogrammed DSP is used to create active crossovers or optimize the frequency response of Procella loudspeakers and subwoofers. This is an approach often taken in professional PA systems in that the manufacturer does the work of optimizing the amplifier to the specific speaker. JBL speakers with Crown amps comes to mind here. It’s a fantastic way to get every last ounce of performance from a loudspeaker.
Procella sets the DSP presets at the factory to compliment the majority of its full line of products. They will also do custom programming at the customer’s request.
Input is the professional standard 3-pin XLR, and speaker output is handled via Neutrik speakON connectors. If you’ve never used speakON, you’ll love it and never want to go back. It’s used on professional PA amplifiers and offers a solid, locking connection. Procella gives you the connectors with the amp.
Independent front panel level control is provided for each channel. Front panel LEDs tell you that a signal is present, levels of -18 dB and -6 dB, as well as a clipping indicator. There is also power and thermal protection indicators. An internal fan runs as needed to keep the 1RU box cool.
Procella also provides amp channel and DSP requirements for its loudspeakers in the PDF spec sheet on their website.
The DA-2800 is available now worldwide for an MSRP of $4,699. The DA-2800DSP is available for an MSRP of $5,999.
