Most good home automation systems require professional installation, and a bit of a learning curve, but Belkin thinks they’ve figured out how to keep it simple with their new WeMo line of products.

Initially a two-piece set — a wifi controlled on-off switch, and one with a built-in motion detector — WeMo is controlled from your iOS smartphone or computer (Android later). Once you register the device, and asssign it a name or function in the app, you have total control over the power to devices plugged into it. You can turn them on and off, assign sleep/wake cycles, or set the parameters for motion detection. Time the coffee maker to go off 10 minutes before you wake up, the lights to come on before you  get home, or  simply enjoy the energy savings and hands-freeness of the motion detection feature:
