Yes, I’ve seen every episode eleventy-three times. Yes, the show is on in syndication (in high-def, no less) practically every night. But still, I couldn’t help but squee in delight when I read the press release announcing the Friends: The Complete Series Blu-ray collection. And you may be thinking, “Wait, whut? Nineties sitcom on Blu-ray? What a waste!” Actually, no: unlike many sitcoms, Friends was shot on film, and edited on video for broadcast. The press announcement says that all 236 episodes have been “COMPLETELY REMASTERED in 1080p” (just like that, in all capital letters), and I can’t vouch for whether or not it’s the same masters used in current HD broadcasts, but even if so, those look kinda gorgeous.

In addition to the seventeen hours of bonus materials from the DVD collection, the Blu-ray set also promises to deliver over three hours of new goodies, including:

True Friends: Documentaries: Retrospective documentaries with new interviews looking at the influential 10 years of the show
The Original Producer’s Cut for “The One Where Rachel Tells Ross”
The Original Script for “The One Where Rachel Tells Ross”
Friends On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (2005)
Friends Visit The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2004)
“The Ones With More Friends”: The original extended broadcast episodes
“The One with the Never-Before-Seen Gags”: Never-before-seen gag reel with the laughs that were too funny to include on the DVD
The Rembrandts: “I’ll Be There For You” Official music video

Start saving your pennies now. Friends: The Complete Series Blu-ray collection will hit shelves on November 13, 2012, for a suggested retail price of $279.98.
