THX and AVForums are teaming up to launch the PicturePerfect Campaign in an effort to educate the masses about the importance of proper television calibration.

While it might to be shocking to learn that many folks don’t bother to calibrate their television sets, it is shocking to hear just how widespread this epidemic has become, particularly in Britain. According to a study by Ipsos MORI, 51% of British television owners don’t make any adjustments to their sets after purchase. Fifty-one percent.

Perhaps more disheartening, only 21% of owners who do make adjustments actually follow manufacturers guidelines and a lowly five percent bother to consult a professional service for adjustments.

With PicturePerfect, THX and AVForums are hoping to make television calibration more common and more accurate. The site offers specially commissioned videos that offer illustrate common adjustments along with a three-step guide that aims to make the process as easy as possible. Television manufacturers Panasonic, Sony, LG, Sharp, Loewe, and Toshiba are supporting the campaign, as is the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF).
