During the restoration process for Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Blu-ray release, tons of tapes were gone through, in a search for for gag reels, bits and bobs of visual effects, and other archival material, and during a marathon viewing session, the team discovered the Lost Ark of TNG.
If you’re an eagle-eyed Trekkie, you probably noticed at one point or another that, in exterior shots of the starships, you can actually see people walking around inside, and nowhere is that more obvious than during the final bits of the opening credits of the show, where we get that slow beauty shot of the Enterprise before she goes to warp.
What most people don’t know is that this is essentially a pencil animation meant to take the place of the yet-to-be-built conference room’s occupants. At the size and scale of the shot, you would never notice, even on a movie screen, that is, before CBS Digital‘s team dug it out and showed it to you naked
