As poor consumer-grade routers in the home are taxed by more and more streaming data, consumer electronics manufacturers are increasingly looking to skip the Belkin altogether and just go direct for greater stability and throughput.

Apple is all but confirmed to be moving away away from requiring Wi-Fi with its next version of Airplay, by setting up a direct connection between iDevices and the products that support the feature. Going direct definitely helps in the quality department, but users should be aware that it almost certainly will take up much more battery life, and not all existing AirPlay devices will be compatible.

The  iPhone 5 is expected to be available starting September 21st, and the all-but-confirmed iPad mini, which should also support the technology, should hit shelves sometime later this year.
