Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day: Up to 70% Off of SanDisk Memory

Amazon’s Gold Box is packed with deals on SanDisk SD cards, MicroSD cards, and even CompactFlash today, but perhaps the most interesting deal for HTPC builders and users is the SanDisk ReadyCache 32 GB SATA 3 Solid State Drive, which, at 60% off, is a low $39.99 today.

There are a few caveats, so don’t just click the Buy Now button, but for the right user, this could turn out to be a neat little deal.

Firstly, it’s important to realize that this isn’t a regular SSD. You won’t get a drive letter. You can’t install your software on it. Instead, it works in tandem with your slower HDD to cache your most-used files and programs, making them available more quickly than your platter would be able to serve them up.

Secondly, for now at least, it only supports Windows 7, so if you’re planning on upgrading to Win8 this week, hold off for now. Or, if $40 is nothing to you, at least hold off on installing it until we can verify whether SanDisk plans on adding Windows 8 support. If so, you’ve got a sorta kinda almost SSD-like configuration that should add more than $40 worth of speed to your system. If not, you’ve got a cheap Christmas gift for someone in the family who is holding onto Win7.

If any of the above works for you, snag the SanDisk Desktop Caching SSD – ReadyCache 32 GB SATA 3 Solid State Drive SDSSDRC-032G-G26 at Amazon today for $39.99.
