You may not think of the overhang of your roof as technology, per se, but it is a design element with a number of benefits, from protecting the exterior walls of your home from rain and snow to controlling the amount of sunlight that sneaks through your windows at different times of the year.

Treehugger.com has an architectural editorial lamenting the decline of overhangs in modern (even supposedly eco-friendly) construction, spotlighting several new homes that could have benefited from a bit of roof overhang, and imploring designers and architects not to turn their backs on this passive — but crucial — design element.
