Apple has avoided any specific statements about the long-rumored iTV. Until now, that is. In an interview with Brian Williams set to air on Rock Center tonight, December 6, Tim Cook finally spoke up:

“When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” Cook said. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”

I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see the iTV take the iPad mini’s announcement slot for next year in the Apple lineup. iTV is widely thought to attempt to integrate an internet streaming cable service that turns each channel into HBO GO style apps, a plan certain to meet with a large amount of resistance from the cable industry. Whether or not Steve Jobs actually “cracked TV,” or it will actually be a revolution, remains a question that only next year will answer. At least it’ll keep the pundits busy until then.
