Despite the fact that I was still recovering from a nasty, nasty run-in with the flu (get your shots, kids; this year’s strain is no joke), I spent the better part of last week in beautiful Franklin, TN, touring the offices of Emotiva parent company Jade Design. While I was there, I got to hear — among many other things — a product that Emotiva is officially announcing today: the XDA-2 USB DAC/Digital Preamp/Headphone Amplifier.
At just $399, the XDA-2 boasts two coaxial inputs, two Toslink ins, 1 AES/EBU digital input, and a USB in, with full support for 192/24 audio with asynchronous sample rate conversion for near-total immunity to jitter. In case you didn’t pay close attention to its name, the XDA-2 also features a full audiophile-quality headphone amp (with 0.1-ohm output impedance), and also serves as a full featured digital preamp, with an analog resistor ladder volume control “with 0.25dB steps and flawless channel tracking down to -100dB attenuation.”
The XDA-2 is shipping now, and if you act fast, you can get it directly from Emotiva for fifty bucks off, with free shipping.
