Last time we reported on the status of this disc, the release date was entirely speculative (it was originally scheduled for last year), but Top Gun 3D is now locked in for a February 19 release (just like half the other Blu-rays in the known universe), and will be preceded by a weeklong run in IMAX theaters beginning February 8.

There are plenty of things that we are still shamelessly holding onto from the 80’s, but our love for TOP GUN is worn like a badge of honor. The IMAX release of TOP GUN will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology and rendered into 3D. The film’s complex, long shots reveal extraordinary depth and clarity, allowing viewers to explore every detail.  From the spectacular aerial dogfights to the intense close-ups in the cockpits, each frame enables the audience to feel a part of the action.

Prepared under the supervision of director Tony Scott before his death last fall, the 3D conversion of Top Gun was handled by Legend 3D, the same crew that did last spring’s trip on the Titanic, and will make its way to Blu-ray via a new 4K master, with the following bonus material:
