By far the best thing to happen to my television in the past year was the arrival of Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, and although the wait for season two has been excruciating, it just got a little bit easier. HBO has just announced that all ten episodes of The Newsroom: The Complete First Season are headed for DVD and Blu-ray on June 11, just in time for the debut of season two.
Granted, I could just as easily revisit the series in its entirety thus far on HBO GO, but fully half of the first season episodes are going to be accompanied by audio commentaries by Aaron Sorkin, executive producer Alan Poul, and cast members Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston, and Emily Mortimer on the home video release, and that, for me, is worth the extra coin. Other extras include:
- “Mission Control” – a behind-the-scenes look at the state-of-the-art sets with cast and crew.
- “The Rundown” – Aaron Sorkin, executive producer Alan Poul, co-executive producer Greg Mottola, Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer and Sam Waterston discuss in detail their experiences shooting the first season in this exclusive conversation.
- Deleted Scenes
- Inside the Episodes – get the inside perspective on each of the episodes with revealing interviews from Aaron Sorkin.
- Episodic Previews & Recaps
The Newsroom: The Complete First Season will come home in two forms: a DVD release for $59.99 retail ($41.99 at Amazon), and a HBO Select Blu-ray with Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy for $79.98 retail ($55.99 at Amazon).
