HBO GO has been available on the go for over a year now on your iOS devices, but what about sitting back on the couch and enjoying archival HBO contant via Apple TV? Well, fear not Jobs-kateers, your long wait may soon be over (but maybe not in time for season three of Game of Thrones). According to Bloomberg, the HBO GO app is finally set to debut on AppleTV around the middle of this year
“This is an area of intense interest for us,” Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said in response to a question about a television during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on Jan. 23. “I tend to believe that there’s a lot we can contribute in this space. And so we continue to pull the string and see where it leads us.”
This move comes amid speculation that the ice may be cracking on some kind of streaming subscription to HBO-owned content, but make no mistake: even if HBO GO shows up on Apple TV, it will still be locked to existing cable subscribers. Apple is still rumored to be introducing an actual television sometime this year that incorporates Apple TV, so this may be a small piece of that bigger picture.
