Marantz NA-11S1 Network Audio Player and DACMarantz is a name one normally associates with amazingly high-quality  surround processors, receivers, and disc players, but the NA-11S1 Network Audio Player and DAC is certainly set to up the company’s cred in the streaming audio world. Included within the company’s Reference Series lineup, which usually revolves around SACD players, turntables, and integrated amps, the NA-11S1 promises to deliver superior audiophile flare to a category normally associated with less-than-impressive aural performance.

What sets the NA-11S1 apart from the regular streaming-audio pack? For one thing, multiple proprietary HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) circuits, as well as dual master audio clock generators, “with jitter reduction for numerous sampling frequencies and bit depths, up to 192 kHz/24 bits”; a beefy dedicated headphone amplifier, and support for virtually every digital audio format under the sun, including WAV, WMA, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC, FLAC, and ALAC, as well as — get this — DSD! It also includes the usual streaming audio services like Pandora, SiriusXM, and Spotify, and features several DSP modes for sound customization, including two different modes for digital sources, in addition to noise shaping and a DC filter with a 1.7 Hz cutoff.

The NA-11S1’s audiophile-quality DACs also operate in differential mode for the superior noise reduction and increased dynamic range. And yes, as its name implies, in addition to streaming audio from your sources of choice, the NA-11S1 can also operate as a high-quality standalone DAC for your other devices via its Toslink or B type USB inputs, with output available as unbalanced RCA or balanced XLR.  According to the press release, “the balanced outputs also feature a phase-inversion option for compatibility with any XLR-equipped pre-amp.”

Control is handled via the included IR remote, an IR input on the back of the device, or the Marantz Remote App for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

Of course, a player with this many features and this quality of construction and design doesn’t come cheap. The NA-11S1 retails for $3,499.00.
