Control4 Gen3 wireless lighting lifestyle shotControl4 has been on a roll lately with new releases and big new updates to its home control platform, but today’s announcement tops them all. They company just took the lid off of a major new overhaul of its wireless lighting control products, with a ground-up redesign focused not only on enhanced aesthetics, but a seriously ginormous increase in the range of loads controllable entirely within the Control4 ecosystem.

Control4 Gen3 wireless lighting dimmerThe centerpiece of the new wireless lighting lineup is probably the new Control4 Wireless Adaptive Phase Dimmer, which, as its name probably already told you, takes the guesswork out of selecting the right dimmer for your lighting needs, and allows you to upgrade from one bulb type to another without worrying if your dimmer will still work. Controlling LEDs — even the supposedly dimmable ones — can be a nightmare with traditional dimmers, but the Wireless Adaptive Phase Dimmer is designed to work like a champ with everything from those to incandescents, halogens, electronic low voltage transformers, magnetic low voltage transformers, fluorescents, and compact fluorescents.

At $180 MSRP, the Wireless Adaptive Phase Dimmer may not sound cheap, but it also spotlights one of the major advantages of this new “Gen 3″ wireless lighting line from Control. To get this level of sophistication from lighting within the Control4 ecosystem, you used to have to rely on third-party offerings, which had to be programmed separately and then integrated after the fact into the Control4 software, followed by even more programming. As with all of Control4′s new wireless lighting products, the Wireless Adaptive Phase Dimmer can be quickly and easily programmed with just a few button presses in the Control4 Composer Pro software, cutting the time required for installation and setup at least in half. And when it comes to custom installation… well, you know what they say about time and money.

Of course, if your dimming needs are a little more specific, Control4 is also offering a Wireless 0-10V Dimmer, perfect for controlling 4-wire 0-10V dimmable fluorescent ballasts and LEDs, at $190 MSRP, and a Wireless Forward Phase Dimmer, a more affordable solution if you know you only need to dim forward-phase loads like incandescents, line-voltage halogens, and magnetic transformers, for $140 MSRP.

Control4 configurable keypad for wireless lighting and home automationFor something really neat and a little more off the beaten path, there’s also the Wireless Keypad Dimmer, which transforms a standard light switch or dimmer into a combination phase adaptive dimmer/fully customizable keypad, allowing you to not only control any lighting load you’d want to now or in the future, but also add simple control of AV or other automated devices. MSRP on that one is $250, although you’ll probably want to spring for some customized backlight engraving, so you won’t forget which button does what.

For $200 MSRP you could also opt for the new standalone Wireless Configurable Keypad, which can be configured with anywhere between two and seven custom-engraved, LED backlit buttons of different sizes, for 37 total possible configurations.

Another biggy for this southern boy is the introduction of the Wireless Fan Speed Controller, which gives you full Control4 control over standard paddle-type ceiling fans, with four fan speed buttons and an off button. With your ceiling fans integrated into the system, you can also incorporate them into automated climate control events, so when the AC kicks on (or even before — say, if the temperature gets a little too toasty, but not toasty enough for air conditioning), any or all of your ceiling fans can come on automatically. Pricing on that one is $190 MSRP.

The line, of course, also includes a new Wireless Switch ($140 MSRP), designed to provide on/off control of virtually any type of load, as well as an Auxiliary Keypad ($40 MSRP)  for three-way control of any compatible Control4 Dimmer, Switch, or Fan-Speed Controller.

The new line is also entirely compatible with Control4′s new panelized lighting solution, and programs just as easily, so mixing and matching wired and wireless solutions should be a cinch. All of the new wireless lighting control products are available for order immediately from Control4 dealers, and are expected to start shipping next month.
