Google TV has been called everything from a flop to a really hard flop to a mega-flop (why not a petaflop? one wonders), but the “Smart TV Platform that Could” keeps chugging along with OS updates and a continued attempt to be the cool kids’ alternative to Apple TV. And now, it seems, Google TV wants to be the cool kids’ 4K TV. Or at least one Chinese TV manufacturer wants it to be.
Details were rather thin on the ground (thin in the air — just generally pretty trim), but the MoVo UD, as the TV is known for now, does include the “Android 4.2.2 operating system, as well as instant access to services such as Google Voice Search, Chrome, Google Play, and YouTube.”
No information on pricing yet, but we can safely assume it will be somewhere between Seiki’s dirt-cheap $1400 4K TV and Sony’s $5K 4K models. According to the Electronic House article, it should also be available sometime later this year.
