Alien Anthology Blu-rayMaybe in space no one can hear you scream, but if you want to hear a bunch of Alien fans holler, tell them that the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set is on sale for only $19.99 today on Amazon. Now, granted, I’m biased: not only am I a huge fan of the series, but DVD/Blu-ray producer Charles de Lauzirika is an old friend of mine. But those biases aside, I still think this is one of the better Blu-ray sets in my collection, holding its own with the The Superman Motion Picture Anthology.

If you already own the Alien Quadrilogy on DVD, you might be wondering what the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set offers in terms of upgrades. I’ll let Mr. de Lauzirika speak for himself on the enhancements, upgrades, and additions (via the Facebooks):

  • All of the films (both versions) in HD.
  • Alien 3: SE with fully-restored 5.1 (we were finally able to bring back Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance and Lance Henriksen to loop their lines this time, fixing all the sound problems on the Quad version.)
  • Several hours of new Enhancement Pods and other video clips newly-created for this release.
  • My uncut Alien 3 documentary with even more footage than the version that was cut-down last time.
  • Newly-released deleted scenes from Aliens, including the long-hidden “Burke Cocooned” scene.
  • Isolated scores for all four films, including lots of previously unreleased music, as well as alternate original composer versions of the scores for Alien and Aliens.
  • Newly-recreated (and beefed-up) HD image galleries.
  • Computer display video from Alien and Aliens.
  • Archival featurettes new to Blu-ray, such as Alien Evolution (two different versions), The Alien Legacy, and The Alien Saga.
  • And lots more, all enhanced by an optional interactive experience called MU-TH-UR Mode which allows you to customize how you access all the extras, basically connecting all six discs together. It’s been a while since I’ve done the math myself, but apparently there’s about 26 HOURS of additional content beyond what’s on the Quadrilogy DVD set. All for twenty bucks. Crazy.

Like the man said: Crazy.
