One technology that has piqued our interest is Infiniti’s new steer-by-wire that will be introduced in the new Infiniti Q50- the replacement for the G37.  The technology will allow the user to have a custom steering sensation based on the type of driving, or it can be tailored to ‘how you want it, when you want it.’  There will also be no jolts transmitted through the wheel.  Run over speed bump at 20?  The suspension and chassis will react, but the steering wheel won’t jump out of your hands.  Sounds dope!  But the first question that pops into everyone’s mind is will there be a failsafe?  The Nissan mothership responds yes.  There are three different sensor banks in the system, and if the system finds a fault anywhere, it will automatically couple a clutch for a direct link from the steering wheels to the front wheels.  Whew.  I can breathe a little easier now.

But, this technology brings us one step closer to autonomous vehicles.  As the servos are implemented into other pedestrian Nissan models, it will only be a few sensors away from being able to take your hands off the wheel during a traffic jam…
