Smoothin’ out the Voltage – Bosch Edition

The old myth was to leave the engine running to save gas because it takes more of the precious fossil fuel to restart the engine than to let it idle for a short time.  But with today’s fuel injectors and o2 sensors measuring every drop of go juice, shutting the engine off at traffic lights is a proven way to boost economy.  But how can this technology be implemented on a standard combustion engine vehicle without a fancy hybrid battery pack?  Enter the Bosch DC to DC converter.  It allows the engine to shut off but without making your instrument cluster go dead and the radio to lose its presets.  Basically it smooths everything out.  Could we see this technology among car audio competitors as a way to get more juice without using a regulated power supply?  Just sayin’…
