The Internet rumor mill started to go aflutter with the conjecture around a 3-cylinder BMW M3.  Is it possible?  Well, if you take a look at the BMW i8, it is powered by a 177 horsepower version of the three-cylinder turbo engine.  Add in a little plug-in hybrid technology, and it makes it a reasonably entertaining.  Those familiar with the engine say it can easily boosted into the 300 horsepower territory.  However, even 300 horsepower is a little light on horsies, especially when considering the current generation’s V8 at 414 horsepower.  But if we add in some Lithium Ion plug-in technology… But is an electrified M3 in our future?  Well, people once said that electro-mechanical  power steering would never be in the M series vocabulary as well…and that’s just around the corner.
