I’ll be at the Connected Car Conference in NYC tomorrow.  So that brought out some of the best of the west coast 12 Volt peeps to my neck of the woods.  And one person I am thankful for stopping by my pad with an AppRadio 3Pioneer AppRadio 3 in tote is Ted Cardenas, Vice President, Marketing, Car Electronics Division of Pioneer.  He had the unit installed in a Camry and the AppRadio 3 looks the part.  Nothing about it screams ‘Aftermarket.’  With the right custom dash kit, the unit looks as clean as any OEM install.  That’s just around the outer bezel.  Cleaner still is the capacitive touchscreen with its cleanly laid out graphics.  The unit is now MirrorLink compatible for those Android users who can take advantage, and, of course, the AppRadio 3 is compatible with iPhone 5, 4S, and 4.  Just load up the Apps you crave and you are off!

Whereas I would only load up the Apps I would use, Ted gets to cram his full of Apps for demonstration purposes.  We were viewing the multitude of GPS options- some with onboard nav info, some with offboard.  The wildly popular MotionX is supported, but Ted was showing me the advantages of Waze and swayed me toward the service.  I am looking forward to giving it a try.  Another really cool app is the Escort Live radar detector interface.  Here you can be alerted of speed traps and red light cameras right on the face of your head unit!

The unit has two preamp outputs.  There will also be a version with a DVD drive for those who just can’t commit to going fully mechless.  And if you are a hardcore car audiophile, don’t feel left out.  The AppRadio features will be implemented into the higher-end models in the rest of the Pioneer lineup.  http://www.appradioknows.com/
